Acute Pain

Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital’s Department of Anaesthesia has a consultant led Acute Pain Service that sees many patients per week. We work in close collaboration and liaise with other pain management teams, including the Chronic Pain Service and Palliative Care Service. Monday to Friday rounds are staffed by a Clinical Nurse with training in pain management, a Consultant Pain Specialist or Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Pain Management and registrars fulfilling their ANZCA training requirements. Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital is one of the leading sites for regional anaesthesia in Australia and we also provide our Provisional Fellows with an opportunity to join in the acute pain rounds in order to gain experience with multimodal pain management techniques.

We aim to provide a comprehensive pain management plan tailored to each patient, and rely on a multidisciplinary team approach to management, including psychology, social work, drug and alcohol service, just to name a few. We also perform regular auditing of various pain management and regional anaesthesia techniques.
